Here are a few things to watch out for when you
sign your contract:
1) The currency.
Euros are worth more than
dollars.
2) The end of your contract.
It does not seem
so important when you sign, but once you get to the end of
the season it is going to feel important that you can get
your last check, and get back home as soon as possible.
Some teams will want their players to stay so that they can
bring players in to try out for the next year.
3) Injury.
First of all, make sure that you will be paid
even if you are hurt and can not practice.
Secondly, make sure that the team will assume
all costs for whatever medical care you need, and that they will
take care of all the details in getting you that care.
Finally, examine who will decided that you are
injured. You should have a clause saying that if
practicing or playing poses a significant risk to your body then
you will be excused from all responsibilities but that you will
still be paid. There might be times when you could play,
but doing so would jeopardize your body, it's important that you
are able to rest in these times, and that you have the power to
get a second medical opinion, in case the team has a doctor who
is pressuring you to play when you don't feel that it would be
safe.
